TUNDE LEMO SEND OFF EVENT REPORT

The E-Payment Providers Association of Nigeria (E-PPAN) hosted a sendoff Dinner Party in honour of the retired Deputy Governor, Operations of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Tunde on the 13th of February, 2014 at the exalted Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event which was an exclusive for only top industry chieftains in the industry had in attendance over 30 industry leaders, CEOs, top senior executives, colleagues and friends from the banking sector, payment companies, card manufacturers and Central Bank of Nigeria who were present to pay their respect to the past DG for his enormous contributions to the E-Payment Industry.

Sir Demola Aladekomo who gave the welcome remarks at the occasion, described Tunde Lemo as a man with foresight and intelligent banking professional. He further commends his role in bringing about electronic payment revolution in the country. This was followed by a mark of respect given by industry leaders including the Managing Director of NIBSS, Mr. Adebisi Shonubi, Managing Director of Unified Payment Services, Mr. Agada Apochi, Managing Director of eTranzact, Mr. Valentine Obi and the Personal Assistant to the retiree, Mr. Akinwunmi S.A. They unanimously individual admiration for Mr. Tunde Lemo and how he has significantly impacted the growth of their organization and they have established lifelong friendships.

Mr. Macauley Atasie E-PPAN President and MD Nextzon during his citation gave an insight into the over 20years service of Mr Tunde Lemo both as a banker and a regulator. During his tenure as the Managing Director Of Wema Bank, he redefined the quality of service provided by the bank and made it rank as one of the top ten most profitable commercial banks in Nigeria in 2003.

The retired Deputy Governor in charge of Operations, during his tenure played a vital role in driving the industry-wide shared services initiative aimed at achieving efficient banking services and greater penetration of banking services. He also championed the introduction of the Microfinance Policy and Supervisory Framework and the emergence of over 800 Microfinance Banks.  He contributed to public policy through the implementation of the Banking Sector Consolidation, formulation and the restructuring of Abuja Security and Commodities Exchange and Nigeria Export Import Bank (NEXIM),

Speaking at the dinner, EPPAN President, Mr. Macaulay Atasie, said E-PPAN’s decision to honour Lemo was informed by the honoree’s vital contribution in stimulating the e-payment payment system. This can be narrowed down to the transformation of the National Payments System for widespread use of electronic payments and the transformation of the Nigeria Inter-Bank and Settlement Systems (NIBSS) Plc

Mrs. Regha, the Executive Secretary /CEO of E-PPAN in a closing remark  said he will be greatly missed in the financial services industry and thanked him for his efforts in supporting and pushing the growth of electronic payment system in Nigeria. She concluded by wishing him a wonderful time as he take on life new challenge
